During the past seventeen years, I have photographed landscapes, adults, families, and children all over the world.

I first became interested in photographing pregnant nudes when my niece, who was eight months pregnant, asked me to record the last few weeks of her term; I obliged. After that first effort, I found an increasing number of women and men to whom these images appeal on a very basic emotional level. Women of quite different backgrounds and nationalities often seem to share a common response to this subject; and, both as a photographer as well as a mother of three children, I too feel a special bond between myself and these images.

The women I photograph come to me for a variety of reasons. Many just want a record of their pregnancies beyond what can be captured in a simple snapshot. Others are preparing to answer their children's age-old question: "Mommy, where do I come from?" They are anticipating with relish the opportunity, some day, to show their children just how much room they occupied in "Mommy's belly." In a way, I think these images serve somehow to simplify and demystify many of the difficulties that parents can have dealing with pregnancy and the sexuality that infuses it.
